Every year in the spring, the carpet of green moss covering the rocks on Lao Mai beach creates a unique and wonderful sight in Taiwan (China).

Located on the north coast of Taiwan (China), in the Shimen district of New Taipei City, Lao Mai beach is an attractive destination for both local residents and tourists. In addition to being a beautiful beach near Taipei, Lao Mai also owns a unique rock band, one of the strangest natural sights you will find in Taiwan. The beach was voted by CNN as one of the 8 wonders of this island. Lao Mai Beach is located in the Dai Truan volcanic area. Thousands of years ago, when the volcano erupted, lava flowed down the coast, along with the impact of sea water and climate, the rock formations here were eroded, forming long cracks and trenches. Every year, in the spring from February to May, the beautiful scenery of Lao Mai beach attracts photographers to come and compose. Moss and algae cover the rocks with a vibrant green color. Covering nearly 2 km of rock, the contrast of moss and ocean colors makes for an interesting combination for artistic photos. After this period, the moss will turn white, brown and die off as the weather starts to warm up. So, the best time to visit the green rocks in Lao Mai suggested by local residents is from March to May. In addition, visitors can only see the rocky beach at low tide, because at high tide, the rocky strip will disappear under the waves of the sea. In particular, the sky at dawn and dusk with orange-yellow light is also a beautiful backdrop for photos of blue rocks. Photo: Trip. Lao Mai is a protected natural landscape, so visitors are reminded not to throw garbage or damage the rock. If violated, the fine will be very high. Photo: Alexis Jetsets.
