After 2 years since being crowned Champion of Sao Mai folk music in 2019, singer Quach Mai Thy has just returned to the music race with her first project called “Thy-nương”. The project contains a lot of enthusiasm for the purpose of gratitude to the audience who have always supported her during the Sao Mai contest, always waiting for her for the past 2 years. Champion Sao Mai Quach Mai Thy. Reporter: It took 2 years after the Sao Mai contest, Quach Mai Thy had her first music product. Why is there such a delay? Quach Mai Thy: After Sao Mai, I have cherished music projects to debut to the public, responding to the feelings of those who have always accompanied and supported me during the Sao Mai competition. However, I have no financial resources, no giants or sponsors who support the product, so I have to go on stage, accumulate money little by little. At the time when I had a bit of capital, preparing to release the MV on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the coronation in April 2020, I encountered the Covid-19 epidemic, leading to a lot of delayed and difficult work, forcing me. have to postpone the plan. Sad but also do not know how, had to break his promise to the audience. At the end of 2020, art activities will start again, I also eagerly embarked on a 2-year project. But translation broke out again, causing Thy’s series of shows before Tet and after the Lunar New Year to be canceled. So the intended amount to spend was not available. Thy cried for 1 day 1 night because of self-pity and helplessness !. After stabilizing her spirit, Thy thought that if she had no money to invest in the project, even if she borrowed, Thy also worked to launch the product on the occasion of 2 years. Thy can’t let the viewers who love her wait any longer. 
Reporter: This product is quite enthusiastic investment by Quach Mai Thy. What is the special point of this project? Quach Mai Thy: With the Thy-Nuong project, I will introduce to the audience 3 products, including: MV “The Unscrupulous Item” (Xam Market), the song “Waiting for you” is inspired by the quote “Xuyun fake fool” Kim Nham ancient chèo play, the song “Ngoc Hoa self-song) was inspired by the character My Nuong in the fairy tale Son Tinh – Thuy Tinh. The MV “The inhuman” describes the struggles, loneliness, and pride of people when standing at the top. The remaining two songs were written by young musician Tran Khanh Ly according to Thy’s order. These are songs that are taken from Vietnamese folk music and stylized to be newer and more modern. In terms of music, Thy is still faithful to the contemporary folk style, but will invest in composing new songs and modern and civilized mix to reach young audiences as well as international friends. Reporter: The exploitation of Vietnamese folk, fairy and historical characters … to build stories, combining the use of folk tunes with modern elements and ordering musicians to write their own is said to be Quach Mai Thy’s pretty daring step when choosing his own path so as not to be mixed with other folk music singers? Quach Mai Thy: Right! I myself also find myself on my own way and this road is very difficult. I am the one who came up with the ideas and decided the material of the music, but it is very difficult to find someone who understands folk and contemporary music to compose songs for me. I myself have to play a bridging role for all processes, even combining musicians, mixers, music production … together. MV “The soulless”. Reporter: Why did Thy choose such a difficult path while singing simple folk music still has good land and income? Quach Mai Thy: In fact, I think everyone is born with a mission. Everyone chooses to be light, hard work for whom? There are a lot of pure folk music artists, so if I also follow this path, it will be difficult for me to create a foothold. Therefore, I have to choose my own path. It’s hard, but I have to try. If I fail, it’s because I don’t have the qualifications. Reporter: Combining folk music with contemporary has not always been successful. Thy ready to receive conflicting opinions, even fail? Quach Mai Thy: Art is always inherited and developed. If we keep the same, chau, ca tru … then it’s just like that. I want to make folk music develop in line with the times, a little easier to listen to, even bring folk music material to a higher peak. I also anticipate conflicting opinions. Actually, if I’m scared, I won’t do it. Art is very abstract and people will perceive it differently. I also want to choose a private audience, but the quality is fine. 
Reporter: Hoang Thuy Linh is one of the young singers who exploits the literary image into music very well, for example, “Let me tell it to me”. Was Thy putting the characters historical, literary, and folktales … influenced by Hoang Thuy Linh? Quach Mai Thy: Honestly, when I came up with the idea I did not think about Hoang Thuy Linh at all. Ms. Linh is a very good person, but our paths are different. Hoang Thuy Linh is always oriented to the market, reaching a lot with young audiences, according to tastes, creating a very good trend. As for me, I tend to be more specialized in music. In other words, it is more luxurious, not market oriented. I want to conquer people in the profession first and then to the audience, while Hoang Thuy Linh is the opposite. Reporter: In the first project “Thy-Nuong”, the theme music video is the song “The heartless”. The song is about being lonely at the top. So where is Quach Mai Thy on that top now? Quach Mai Thy: I was just digging … up from the foot of the mountain. Actually, this song is not about my life but about other people – people who are so good that they are alone in themselves. Reporter: So what is the peak Quach Mai Thy wants to reach? Quach Mai Thy: I want a position. That is, people in the profession appreciate their expertise and have a certain audience love.
